Smoking out of glass weed pipes is usually a pretty simple endeavor and doesn’t demand any substantial amount of effort, but there are a few ways to ensure that you’re getting the best possible taste and best quality smoke possible out of your pipe. These pointers will be especially relevant for people who have just recently started smoking, but even seasoned stoners might be able to take something away from this article.

The most important first step for optimal pipe smoking is maintaining the cleanliness of the pipe. It depends how often you use that pipe of yours of course, but generally it’s good practice to give it a good cleaning every week or two. Letting residue build up for even a few days can have an unexpectedly large impact on the flavor of the smoke. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve known friends who didn’t clean their glass weed pipes for over a year or two and this didn’t stop them from enjoying their bowls, but not everyone’s taste buds are so carefree. To keep your pipe clean, the two most effective methods are either submerging it in a pot of boiling water for a good half hour, or giving it a rubbing alcohol bath. Both of these cleaning techniques can be assisted with pipe cleaners of course, but that’s not necessary for anyone who cleans their gear every week or so.

Now, when it comes to the actual act of smoking out of it, the main rule is the fresher the smoke is the better it is. This means the quicker you inhale that hit, the better it will taste going down. That’s why it’s a good idea to avoid large pipes with really small carburetors, since the small airway can make it pretty difficult to clear the whole chamber before some of the smoke gets stale. It’s also pretty good etiquette when sharing a pipe with friends to be very sure that you clear the entire chamber of any and all smoke before passing it along in the circle. Even if the smoke is stale by the time you’re emptying your own bowl, you don’t want to be that guy that leaves some grimey smoke in there which really messes with the next bowl your friend is going to smoke, that’s just rude man.
